Before we get to just how easy this recipe for guacamole toast is, let’s talk about its simple ingredients.
Avocados:
Choose ripe avocados.
We prefer Haas avocados, but you do you.
A ripe avocado is one that yields slightly to a gentle press.
Scoop out any brown or bruised spots.
Avocados are healthy fat!
Bread:
We like thick, sliced, whole grain bread or whole wheat bread for this recipe.
White bread works or any bread of choice.
You’re looking for bread that can offer a sturdy base and crisp texture when toasted against the creamy guacamole.
Salt:
Salt is a flavor enhancer.
Try adding flaky sea salt to the top for a finishing touch that will offer texture and an elevation of flavor.
Ingredients:
Bread of Choise
(1) Large egg
5-6 ripe avocados
1 small lime
1 Tablespoon fresh Cilantro (more or less according to taste)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 small red onion, diced
1/2 small red pepper, diced
1 large jalapeno, seeded and sliced
1/4 teaspoon garlic
14 teaspoon cumin
How to Make Guacamole Toast:
In a small pan, fry your egg.
Heat the pan: In a non-stick frying pan, over medium high heat, melt the butter.
Make the Egg: Tap the egg on the side of a bowl and gently pull the eggshell apart over the bowl. Pick out any shell pieces and then gently pour the egg into the pan and immediately reduce the heat to low. Cook slowly until the whites are completely set and the yolk begins to thicken but isn’t firm (About 2 minutes). Quickly slide a flat turner under the egg and gently flip it over in the pan. Cook egg to desired doneness, about 30-seconds. Season with salt and pepper, if you like.
Make the Guacamole:
Cut avocados in half, remove the pit and discard, scoop the avocado flesh into a small bowl and mash with a fork.
Add salt and pepper, cumin, garlic, red onion and red peppers and mash and mix into the avocado.
Toast bread to desired crispiness.
Spread toasted slice of bread with guacamole.
Top with jalapenos and pinch of salt.
Squeeze fresh lime over top.
Add-Ins;
There are easy ways to boost your guacamole game.
Try adding:
Sliced tomatoes
Fresh Herbs like:
Basil
Dill
Parsely
Sauces and seasoning:
Pesto
sriracha
Drizzle with balsamic glaze or balsamic vinegar
Everything Bagel seasoning
Red Pepper Flakes
Chilli flakes
Cheeses:
Add a tablespoon of cream cheese
Sprinkle with crumbled goat cheese
Egg Variations:
Scramble egg
Poached egg
ProTip: Always cook the egg on low, once your pan is heated. If the pan is too hot it will make a brown lace around the outside edge of the egg and the egg will become tough and rubbery.
